Sundsvall native Helen Sjöholm this weekend received Nicke Sjödin’s large scholarship – and took the opportunity to offer the audience evergreens in Ångermanland dialect. – It was a magical evening, says the compere Jacke Sjödin.

Last Saturday it was time for this year’s Nicke gala at Hullsta farm in Sollefteå. For the third consecutive year, scholarships were awarded in the author and entertainer Nicke Sjödin’s memory.

Lyrical
This time it was Helen Sjöholm, born in Sundsvall and with her roots in Näsåker, who received the large grant of SEK 20 000.

Jacke Sjödin was quite lyrical over the gala evening, when Dagbladet reached him yesterday afternoon.
– I cannot tell you enough how amazing it was. It was a magical evening, completely sold out, he says.

Helen Sjöholm, who is heavily pregnant with twins, was on hand to receive the scholarship. The singer performed some of her own songs, including the famous “Gabriella’s Song”, but also three evergreens on “Röa idiom” with lyrics by Nicke Sjödin.
– She did it outstandingly well and received standing ovations. We are lyrical, says Jacke Sjödin.

Annual artist gala
All the proceeds from the evening goes to the memorial fund that was started after Nicke Sjödin’s death in 2008. The purpose of the fund is to organize an annual artistic gala in Sollefteå and award scholarships to artists working in his spirit. 18-year-old multi-artist Tove Sandström from Sollefteå was the second scholar and was awarded as “Talent of the Year”.
