At the moment Helen Sjöholm is in Hamburg to act in the film version of Marianne Fredriksson’s powerful novel, “Simon and the oaks”. In the movie people ask her not to sing – because she is completely unmusical. But it’s only a movie…

This weekend Helen Sjöholm is the greatest vocal attraction at the Malmö Opera – premiere tonight. Here she sings exactly what you want to hear. A dream concert. And this is just the way it should be, since the Malmo Firebrigade celebrates their 100th anniversary, she says. Much-awaited songs with Helen Sjöholm this weekend in Malmö, in other words.

But is the filming a new career, following”As It Is in Heaven”?
– Well, it sounds great with a “new career”, but it´s new, and there is so much fun to film. A challenge that I really longed for. But right now my thoughts are in Malmö. I always feel so comfortable here.

Stockholm in the fall Why?
– I have so many friends there. Ever since my theatrical debut in Malmö 18 years ago in “Elvira Madigan”, which was followed by “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Kristina”.

What else is new this fall?
– “Aniara” at Stockholm’s City Theatre with new music and directed by Lars Rudolfsson.
But now it is the 100th anniversary at the Malmö Opera. You can expect to hear the following ear-candy:
“You are my man”.
“Gabriella’s Song” with Helsingborg’s choir (50 singers) and an orchestra of 50 musicians.
“Singin’ in the Rain” with Fredrik Lycke, Christer Nerfont and the Canadian soprano Brenna Conrad.
“You and I” from “Chess” with Lycke.
“You have to be there” from “Kristina”.

Longing for holidays
You always have a lot to do. No holiday then?
– Oh yes. Six weeks in the summer when I do … well guess!
?????
– Nothing! It will be wonderful to just be together with my family, my husband David and our son Reuben, two and a half years now. After that it will be fun to start working again.
