A glorious collection of singers – it could have just as easily been me # 1 (Metronome)

When it´s Christmas you should be kind, and it’s really a bunch of blessed singers who release this Christmas album to benefit the Salvation Army’s work for the homeless. The blessed collection consists among others of Helen Sjöholm, Louise Hoffsten, Rigmor Gustafsson, Anna Stadling and several other talented Swedish singers.

They borrow and interpret songs from the Swedish modern song catalogue, for example, Staffan Hellstrand and Mikael Wiehe. There are many nice songs, but Cookies N Beans’ Fanfar (Fanfare) and Helen Sjöholm’s Guldgrävarsång (Prospector song) stand out the most.

Oh, so beautiful and touching it is. Goosebumps mixed with anxiety. One could dismiss this charity project as ridiculous and pretentious, but it’s hard to keep the tears away when you read the message between the lines. In Sweden, which is currently plagued by freezing temperatures, snow chaos and general arctic evil, no one should need to be homeless. No one at all.

Only because of that I think this ought to be this year’s Christmas gift.
