#22. Your Voice – Helen Sjöholm

Helen is a guest on Sanna Martin’s podcast Din Röst (Your Voice). Sanna Martin presents her guest and the content of the podcast episode on Spotify like this:

“If you have a podcast on the subject of VOICE, it´s not so strange if you ask this iconic voice to be part of it. Helen Sjöholm – one of our most loved voices in singing and acting in Sweden.

Helen was a typically good girl as a child – who made sounds from the very beginning. She talks about the importance of the choir at home in Sundsvall and how important it was to have role models to look up to and good leaders who saw her and made demands.

We hear about the early gigs in bars in Sundsvall and about all the encouraging people who emphasized that she would not give up singing at a young age. We then dive deep into the whole Kristina from Duvemåla bubble and get to hear everything about the road to this epic role, how the work went and what this journey and the close collaboration with Björn & Benny has done with Helen, until we are interrupted by…who ?

How do you play 6 shows a week when you’re new to the game? Are all kinds of singing lessons good, we ask ourselves? And how does she get new songs into her head and body?

We talk about self-image, expectations and pressure. She tells us about voice problems, doubts and healthy self-distance. We listen to the clips of the world and reflect on how important the job can really be and arrive at the conclusion that it´s possible to point out that several things can be important in life.

Widget, bull rush and environment also find a place in the conversation, whatever it might be you´re probably thinking. Beautifully, Helen states that the desire for things she has been allowed to do has been greater than the doubt!”
