Touching new musical

Review. Björn G Stenberg was entertained and touched by Jonas Gardell’s & Fredrik Kempe’s musical.

(…)

The combination of Jonas Gardell’s empathetic and humorous twists and pop king Fredrik Kempe’s music has become an amusing and often poignant performance (…)

The story of the “common” suburban mother Mona and her ardent schlager interest has, of course, many components that become good on a stage, from the initial home interior with children, an unemployed husband and everyday stress to the magnificent conclusion in typical bombastic Eurovision stage design (…)

The show wouldn’t lift as high as it does if they hadn’t cast it so well. Just to recite the obvious first: Helen Sjöholm and Peter Jöback. Both do it fantasticly, Sjöholm as the simple Mona who at first is blinded by the breeze but then grows with the challenges, Peter Jöback as the transvestite Candy Darling, aka Sven-Åke, an impressive role interpretation that once again shows his versatility.

Johan Glans fits well as a the slightly silly husband Bosse, eagerly throwing out puns when he gets stressed. The comedian and lecturer Jonas Helgesson is of course perfect as cerebral palsy David, a role which adds that little extra. The opposite of small is the interpretation of the faded pop queen Sabina, where Frida Westerdahl excels as a diva with huge plastics. How funny!

Add an accomplished orchestra, dancers and a scenery that obediently can be shaped to what is required.
