It swung a lot when Benny Andersson Band, with its own dance floor and a 16-piece band, played in Örnskoldsvik yesterday. – It’s incredibly fun and enjoyable to be in Örnsköldsvik. We have played for ten years with this band and never been north of Leksand before, says Benny Andersson.
ÖRNSKÖLDSVIK When Benny Andersson Band, BAB, begins its Sweden tour in Ornskoldsvik, it´s not just a concert. There is dancing and festival. Benny Andersson begins the evening in a purple jacket, but it comes off quite quickly.
The lawn in front of People’s Park scene is filled with chairs and the audience is large: more than 4000 people have come here. When the Swedish music elite enters the stage, it holds a great musical knowledge, but also many instruments. From accordion and violin to flute, trumpet and bass.
There is no doubt about the enthusiasm – and the dancing audience quickly fills the dance floor. That it should lean a little, as Benny Andersson says at the beginning of the concert, doesn´t seem to be a problem. Waltz, schottische and polkas mixes with catchy songs with Helen Sjöholm and Tommy Körberg at the microphones.
We are offered classic BAO music like “Nu mår jag mycket bättre” that gets thunderous applause. But the audience also gets to listen to songs from the new album “O Klang and Jubeltid”, including “Kära Syster”, “Allting syns när man är naken” and Jussi Björling’s “Månstrålar klara”.
The concert is indeed an interplay between band and audience. The audience gets both concert and dance, just as BAO promised. Sometimes something calmer is played, as when multi-skilled Kalle Moraeus sings “Beatrice” – and then persistent dancers have the opportunity to recharge their batteries.
After four hours and countless encores the tour premiere is over. It´s a happy Benny Andersson who steps off the stage.
– It was great fun. It was a little extra at the end. Playing for four hours, it’s a hard shift, he says to Allehanda Media.
Also Fredric Wedin from Event Company Executive Agency, which was organising the event, thinks it was a successful concert.
– It feels great. We have been lucky with the weather and everyone are happy, he says.
Tonight’s the next stop awaits for 10 year anniversary celebrating Benny Andersson Band: Järvsö.
