Last year there were rainstorms
\nThey drowned the harvest
\nThis year it’s drier than hell

\nAre we just dirt in His hands,
\nJust lambs to His slaughter?<\/p>\n

Come look at the harvest
\nSee what I’ve got here
\nThese straws, these hairs of a cat
\nCome count them for yourself
\nWe’ve got your precious Lord to thank for that!<\/p>\n

\nI throw this back in His face
\nLet’s see how He likes it!<\/p>\n

\nThe barn! It’s on fire!<\/p>\n

Neighbours <\/strong>
\nNow everywhere we look it’s dark
\nAnd we have seen the signs of
\ncoming danger, omens of despair
\nAcross the land all winter long
\nthe signs were deadly
\nAll of spring was dry as tinder, cold as sin<\/p>\n

And then the driest yet of thirty summers
\nNo sign of rain, the earth is gasping in the heat
\nThe grass in the meadows turns pale and sickly
\nAnd as the grass falls away, so too,
\ndoes the livestock<\/p>\n

The hills and the valleys turned dark and tawny
\nForetelling what was to come: disaster and famine
\nWhat good is our labour, our toil and trouble?
\nThey’re good for nothing
\nOur Lord has given us nothing!<\/p>\n

\nSo proud and so haughty are you, Karl Oskar
\nI don’t know one who compares
\nIt seems you think that you can curse at God
\nAnd then just forget it!
\nNow we are punished
\nYou threw it back in His face
\nHe taught you a lesson.
